Courante
This Allegro in F Major, HWV 488 by George Frideric Handel belongs to the Baroque period.Handel composed it around the years 1717 or 1718.
It is written in the style of a courante, a dance in triple meter and constant rhythmic motion.
Handel later transposed this Allegro to G Major and used it (in 1733) as a prélude to the Chaconne and 62 variations, G 228, to form the Prélude and Chaconne, HWV 442.
Please note that this score contains suggestions for performing the ornaments (here, turns) in accordance with the performance practice of the Baroque period.
Namely, we suggest adding turns to measures 7, 15 and 25.
These turns are in fact used as cadential trills.
