Study in D Major, Op. 84, No. 34

Melodious and Very Easy Study - Étude mélodique et très facile - Etude

This Study Opus 84, No. 34 by Charles Dancla is about finger action.

It is written entirely in eighth note triplets.

This study is to be played in the first and third positions, and includes a few natural harmonics.

It has the following musical form :
  • Mm. 1-4 : Phrase A-1, going from the main key of D Major to the dominant key of A Major
  • Mm. 5-8 : Phrase A-2, starting exactly as A-1 but remaining in D Major
  • Mm. 9-12 : Phrase B-1 in A Major
  • Mm. 13-16 : Phrase B-2, starting exactly as B-1 but modulating back to D Major
  • Mm. 17-20 : Phrase A-1 repeated exactly as in mm. 1-4
  • Mm. 21-end : Phrase A-2 repeated exactly as in mm. 5-8
This study is preceded with an exercise in finger action in eighth notes on the D string.

The violinist should be careful to keep the left hand relaxed and quiet, with the fingers very close to the string at all times.

In particular, the little finger should remain above the strings throughout the study.

Duration : 01:48
