Study in F Major, Op. 84, No. 31
Gavotte - Folies d'Espagne (Corelli) - Melodious and Very Easy - Étude mélodique et très facile - Etude
This Study Opus 84, No. 31 by Charles Dancla is based on two famous themes by Corelli : Gavotte and Les Folies d'Espagne. It is to be played in the first, second and third positions.
It has the following musical form :
- Mm. 1-8 : Gavotte phrase A, going from the tonic (F Major) to the dominant (C Major)
- Mm. 9-16 : Gavotte phrase B in F Major, with beautiful string crossings
- Mm. 17-32 : the famous theme Les Folies d'Espagne in D minor, to be played very sostenuto
- Mm. 33-end : Variation over the preceding theme, to be played twice : first in détaché and then in spiccato
Please take note that the editor has included in this score a suggested realization for the trill in measure 7. According to the performance practice of the Baroque period, trills begin on the upper note, ON the beat. More repercussions may be added depending on the player's ability.
The famous theme Les Folies d'Espagne is to be played very sostenuto with the whole bow.
The variation challenges the player with two different bowing techniques : first, rapid détaché marked with a forte dynamics indication, and then spiccato in piano, in the middle of the bow.
Duration : 04:20
