Study in D Major, Op. 84, No. 27 (Voi che sapete)

Nozze di Figaro - Melodious and Very Easy Etude - Étude mélodique et très facile

Charles Dancla's Study in D Major, Op. 84, No. 27 is based on the aria Voi che sapete from Mozart's opera buffa Le nozze di Figaro, K 492, composed in 1786.

It is to be played in the first and third positions.

It has the following musical form :
  • Mm. 1-15 : Main theme A in D Major
  • Mm. 16-23 : Contasting section B, written entirely in eighth notes
  • Mm. 24-end : Coda in D Major, featuring octaves in double-stops and 3-note chords in down-bow.
This beautiful study is preceded with an exercise in octaves and chords.

While playing this study, the violinist should pay great attention to producing a very signing tone and phrasing, much like an opera singer would sing this beautiful aria.

The eighth notes of the central section are to be played with great equality.

The parallel octaves are difficult for intonation and should be repeated many times separately until great ease of execution is achieved.

The three-note down-bow chords are to be played at the frog, sounding first the two lower notes, then the two upper notes, with a broad and free gesture of the right arm.

Duration : 02:12
