This Study Op. 45, No. 13 by Franz Wohlfahrt has a majestic character.It is made up entirely of the rhythmic pattern one dotted half note, four sixteenth notes.
It is to be practiced both with whole bows on the dotted half note and very short strokes on the sixteenth notes (either at the tip or at the frog).
This study challenges the violinist to play rapid détaché sixteenth notes at both the tip and the nut of the bow :
- At the tip : the fourth finger can be removed from the bow
- At the frog : the first finger (index) can be removed from the bow
