Lullaby from The Nutcracker
Berceuse de Casse-Noisette - Act I, Scene 6 - Slumber Song
This beautiful lullaby [Berceuse] is taken from the famous ballet The Nutcracker by Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky.It is heard at the beginning of Act I, Scene 6 of the ballet.
At this point, it is late in the night and the guests for the Christmas Eve party at the Stahlbaum’s house are leaving.
The children are sleepy and Clara's family retires to bed.
Clara checks on her injured Nutcracker one last time and places him in a small cradle under the Christmas tree.
The original orchestral edition bears the following mention (in French) :
Les invités remercient le Président et sa femme et s'en vont. On ordonne aux enfants d'aller se coucher. Claire demande la permission d'emporter avec elle le casse-noisette malade. Elle s'en va toute chagrine après avoir bien enveloppé son favori.
This score is an arrangement for easy violin duet (two violins) with piano accompaniment.
The Violin I part is appropriate for Grade 2 violin students.
It is to be played in the first and (optionally) third positions.
