This Sanctus is the third of five movements in Charles-François Gounod's Messe brève no. 7 Aux chapelles.This Messe brève no. 7 was originally published in 1877 in a version for two equal voices with organ.
In 1890, Gounod rearranged it for soli, four-part mixed choir and organ and added the words Aux chapelles to the title.
This beautiful and solemn Sanctus is characterized by dynamic contrasts and by joyful exclamations of Hosanna.
