Study in B flat Major, Op. 45, No. 5

Study - Etude - Étude

This Study Op. 45, No. 5 by Franz Wohlfahrt was originally composed for the violin in the key of F Major.

This score is a transcription for the viola.

This study is about détaché bowing.

It should also be practiced with a great variety of bowing patterns, in all parts of the bow.

It can be played entirely in the first position.

The violist should try to keep the fingers close to the fingerboard as he plays this study.

In particular, the fourth finger should remain above the strings at all times.

Furthermore, it is good idea to use the fourth finger instead of the open strings as often as possible, in order to develop a good position of the left hand.

Besides developing détaché bowing, this study is an excellent way for the student to develop sight-reading skills in the key of B flat Major, on all four strings.
