C Major Scale & Arpeggio

One octave starting on the C string - With tetrachords

The scale of C Major is a major scale based on the note C.

It includes the pitches C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C.

Its key signature is empty (no flats or sharps).

Its relative minor is A minor.

This scale of C Major is one of the very first scales to be learned by beginner violists.

It is to be played in the first position, starting on the open C string.

We recommend that the viola student learns the lower tetrachord (on the C string) and the upper tetrachord (on the G string) before putting them together to create the C Major scale.

We also suggest a variety of rhythm patterns to be played on each note.

For better control of the bow by beginner violists, be sure to use short bow strokes in the upper half of the bow.

This form of détaché bowing is to be played by moving the right forearm only.

Duration : 00:52
