Sonata in G minor -- Urtext
Sonata in G minor -- Urtext
Sonate en sol mineur
This Sonata in G minor by Domenico Scarlatti was recently discovered in a manuscript in the archives of the Escolania de Montserrat.Like Scarlatti's other keyboard sonatas, it was originally composed for harpsichord or fortepiano.
Please note the following points regarding our edition of Scarlatti's Sonata in G minor :
- In measure 1, the dotted slur does not appear in the source but seems justified by analogy with similar passages
- In measure 6, on the last beat for the right hand, both D's in parentheses do not appear in the source but again seem justified by analogy
- In measure 16, the cadential trill does not appear in the source but is nonetheless required here
Also, we suggest adding further ornaments on repeats even if they do not appear in the score (you can hear such ornaments in our sheet music video for this sonata).
Adding such ornaments was a common performance practice in Domenico Scarlatti's time.
