This Exercise No. 1 in A minor is taken from Johann Kaspar Mertz' Schule für die Guitare.This guitar method was first published in Vienna in 1848 by Haslinger.
This Exercise No. 1 is part of the section Übungen auf der E-Saite [Exercises on the E String] in Mertz' guitar method.
It uses the technique of bariolage, with a melody on the lower strings alternating with the open E string.
This exercise is easy enough to be played by beginner guitarists.
The guitar student should make sure to bring forward the melody on the lower strings.
