Concerto RV 293, Op. 8, No. 3 L'Autunno (II : Adagio molto) -- Urtext
Four Seasons - Autumn - Concerto in F Major - Second Movement
This very slow Adagio molto is the second of three movements in the Concerto RV 293, Op. 8, No. 3 (L'Autunno) by Antonio Vivaldi. This concerto is part of Vivaldi's famous Four Seasons [Le quattro stagioni], a series of four concertos part of Il cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione [The Contest of Harmony and Invention].
Each concerto in the Four Seasons is associated to a sonnet probably written by Vivaldi himself.
The verses corresponding to the Adagio molto of the Autumn concerto are as follows :
Fà ch' ogn' uno tralasci e balli e canti
L'aria che temperata dà piacere,
E la Staggion ch' invita tanti e tanti
D'un dolcissimo Sonno al bel godere.
[Everyone is made to forget their cares and to sing and dance
By the air which is tempered with pleasure
And by the season that invites so many, many
Out of their sweetest slumber to fine enjoyment.]
Please note the following point about this Urtext edition :
- The Basso continuo part bears the mention Il Cembalo arpeggiato. Hence the harpsichordist or pianist may improvise an accompaniment with arpeggiation
