Rameau, Jean-Philippe (1683-1764)
Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764) was a French composer and music theorist of the Baroque period.
He was one of the greatest figures in French musical history and France's most important 18th-century composer.
He replaced Jean-Baptiste Lully as the dominant composer of French opera.
Along with François Couperin, Rameau is also considered to be the leading French composer for the harpsichord of his time.
