Minuet from the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach

This lovely Menuet in F Major, BWV Anhang 113 is the third entry in Anna Magdalena Bach's Notebook.

Johann Sebastian Bach gave this notebook to his wife Anna Magdalena in 1725.

Over the years, the notebook was filled with favorite selections of the members of the Bach family.

This score is an Urtext based on the original manuscripts available.

This minuet has a simple A-A-B-B musical form.

Please note that this score contains suggestions for realizing the ornaments in accordance with the performance practice of the Baroque period.

These ornaments are :

• Appoggiaturas (measures 2, 4, 16 and 32) : appoggiaturas are always played ON the beat, and take up half the time value of the main note. If the main note is dotted, then the appoggiatura takes up two thirds of its value.
  Measure 16 is an exception to this rule : here the appoggiatura takes one third of the main note's value in order to avoid the parallel octave which would occur if it took up two thirds of its value.
• Trills (measure 11) : trills are played ON the beat and begin on the upper auxiliary note.
