This Sarabande in D minor by George Frideric Handel was composed during the Baroque period.It has a simple A-A-B-B musical form :
- Measures 1-8 : Phrase A (played twice) starts the main key of D minor and modulates to the relative key of F Major in measure 6
- Measures 9-24 : Phrase B (played twice) begins in F Major, modulates to A minor (measure 14), then to G minor (measure 17), F Major (measure 19) and finally back to the main key of D minor in measure 22
In accordance with Baroque performance practice, remember that unslurred quarter notes should be played slightly detached, especially in the left hand accompaniment.
