Quadrille in C Major, Hob. IX:29

From Five Contradances and One Quadrille, Hob. IX:29

This piece of music is a lively Quadrille in C Major by Franz Joseph Haydn.

It is part of the work Cinq Contredanses (avec Quadrille et Menuet), Hob. IX:29 and IX:24 [Five Contradances with Quadrille and Minuet].

The Five Contradances and Quadrille, Hob. IX:29 were composed around 1792 and were first written in an orchestral version.

The Minuet Hob. IX:24 was published posthumously in Vienna in 1930.

The quadrille is a traditional dance performed by four couples in a square formation. Hence, the quadrille was a precursor to traditional square dancing.

Please note that this score contains suggestions for performing the ornaments in accordance with the performance practice of the Classical period.

In particular, the appoggiaturas (measures 17, 21 and 29) are to be played ON the beat, taking up one half of the main note's value.

Please note also that the dynamics given in this score are editorial and should thus be regarded as mere suggestions to the pianist.

Duration : 01:32
