Contredanse in G Major, K 15e -- Urtext

KV 15e - from the London Notebook

This Contredanse in G Major, K 15e by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is part of the London Notebook (London, 1765).

This score of Mozart's K 15e is an Urtext edition based on the above-mentioned source.

The title Contredanse does NOT appear in the source and is thus editorial.

A contradance is a form of dance consisting of 8-measure phrases which may be repeated as many times as desired.

The prefix contra (meaning against) refers to the fact that the contradance is danced by two couples facing each other.

The French word contredanse probably originates from the English country dance, which it resembles.

This spirited and joyful contredanse features a binary form (A-B).

Please note that the appogiatura in measure 1 should be played on the beat and should take up one half of the main note's value.

Also, in measures 13 and 14, in the left hand, we suggest b-c instead of g-a (which yields parallel fifths with the right hand), but also for conformity with measures 5 and 6.

Young Wolfgang was only 8 years old when he composed this contredanse!
