Fantaisie Op. 86, No. 5 (Austrian Hymn - Don Juan)

Fantasia - Fantasy - Austrian Hymn - Don Juan

This Fantaisie Op. 86, No. 5 by Charles Dancla is a beautiful Romantic work for violin and piano.

Its first part is a slow Andante maestoso introduction.

It is followed by Dancla's arrangement of the Austrian Hymn.

This song, which is nowadays used as the national anthem of Germany, was written by Franz Joseph Haydn in 1797 as an anthem to Emperor Francis II of the Holy Roman Empire (original title : Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser).

That same year, Haydn also used this melody in the second movement of his string quartet in C Major, Op. 76, No. 3.

The third part of this fantasia is an arrangement by Dancla of Mozart's famous and very beautiful aria Batti, batti, o bel Masetto from the opera Don Giovanni.

Duration : 04:52
