Sonatine - Second movement : Allegretto
With its simple form and tuneful melody, this Sonatina in C Major, op. 41, no. 1 by Johann Baptist Vanhal is a favorite among teachers and students alike.
It consists of a short cadenza followed by two movements :
- Cadenza : a short passage in improvisatory style used mainly to introduce the key, it is normally omitted from performance
- Arietta (Andante cantabile)
- Allegretto
This Allegretto features an A-A'-B-A'-Coda musical form, which is typical of the Pre-Classical era :
- Phrase A : measures 1-4
- Phrase A' : measures 5-8
- Phrase B : measures 9-12
- Phrase A' : measures 13-16
- Coda : measures 17-24
