This famous Solfeggio in C minor, H 220, W 117/2 by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was composed in 1766.It was first published in 1770 as part of the collection Musikalisches Vielerley, of which CPE Bach was himself the editor.
The word solfeggio, as used by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, has approximately the meaning of étude, which was not yet current during C.P.E. Bach's lifetime.
CPE Bach's solfeggio aims primarily at developing technical facility and accuracy, and thus serves a pedagogical goal.
