Orchestral Suite - VI : Passepieds 1 and 2

This lively Passepied and Passepied 2 is the sixth of seven movements in the Orchestral Suite in A minor, TWV 55:a2 by Georg Philipp Telemann.

This orchestral suite was originally composed for recorder or flute, strings and continuo.

This score is an Urtext edition based on the original manuscript.

The piano reduction is by M.A. Caux.

The treble recorder part is appropriate for Grade 3 treble recorder students.

Please note that in this score, all slurs and dynamics are authentic.

Also, the treble recorder part contains suggestions for performing the ornaments (here : trills) in accordance with the performance practice of the Baroque period.

Please note also the following points about our edition :

• In the original manuscript, the treble recorder is silent during Passepied 1. This is why we put brackets around the treble recorder part for Passepied 1
• In measure 16, the notes in the bass part are E3 (quarter note) and A3 (eighth note), whereas most editions erroneously have E4 and C4


• In the manuscript as well as in our edition, measure 22 has an irregular number of beats : 3 quarter notes instead of 3 eighth notes


• Also in measure 22, in the treble recorder part, we put the E4 in parentheses because it is out of range for the treble recorder


• In measure 33, the last note of the treble recorder part is B5 (eighth note), whereas most editions erroneously have G#5
