Sonata in D minor, K 9, L 413
Sonata in D minor, K 9, L 413
Essercizio 9 - Allegro
This lively Sonata in D minor, K 9, L 413 by Domenico Scarlatti is appropriate for Grade 9 piano or harpsichord students. It has one single movement : Allegro.
Its musical structure is A (repeated) - B (repeated).
Please note that this score contains suggestions for performing the ornaments (here, trills and appoggiaturas) in accordance with the performance practice of the Baroque period.
Namely, trills should begin on the upper auxiliary note, ON the beat, and should have at least four notes.
Also, we suggest playing the appoggiaturas in measures 37 and 38 as short appoggiaturas.
The short appoggiatura is a rhythmic, dissonant ornament, played on the beat, very rapidly, so that the main note retains almost all of its value.
In this Urtext edition, all trills and notes in parentheses are editorial as they do not appear in the source but are justified when compared with other similar passages :
- Octave in measure 24, left hand : see measure 58
- Trills in measure 25 : see measure 59
- Trill in measure 50 : see measure 16
- Trills in measures 55 and 56 : see measures 21 and 22
In measure 42, the last note in the right hand appears as a E1 in the Essercizi.
However, the Münster manuscript shows a G1 here, which is logical when compared to measure 7.
