Sonata in G Major, K 63, L 84
Sonata in G Major, K 63, L 84
Capriccio
During the course of his life, Domenico Scarlatti composed some 550 harpsichord sonatas for his royal pupil and patroness, Queen Maria Barbara of Spain. This Sonata in G Major, K 63, L 84 is appropriate for Grade 6 piano or harpsichord students.
It has one single movement : Capriccio (Allegro).
Its musical structure is A (repeated) - B (repeated).
Please note that this score contains suggestions for performing the ornaments (here, trills) in accordance with the performance practice of the Baroque period.
Trills begin on the upper auxiliary note, ON the beat, and must have at least four notes.
Please note that in measure 51, in the left hand, the note G was changed to an A in the Longo edition and in some other editions based on Longo's text.
Also, in measure 53, in the right hand, the B natural was changed to a B flat in the Longo and other editions.
In measure 59, in the right hand, the Venice manuscript clearly shows a B flat. We have chosen to consider this B flat as a mistake, as it yields a very unusual harmonic progression.
