Sonata in E Major, K 531, L 430
Allegro
This beautiful Sonata in E Major, K 531, L 430 by Domenico Scarlatti is appropriate for Grade 8 piano or harpsichord students. It has one single movement : Allegro.
Its musical structure is A (repeated) - B (repeated).
Please note that this score contains suggestions for performing the ornaments (here, trills and appoggiaturas) in accordance with the performance practice of the Baroque period.
Normally, trills should begin on the upper auxiliary note, ON the beat, and should have at least four notes.
Here, however, because of the rapid tempo, we suggest playing the trills (such as the one in measure 3) with only three notes, and starting on the main note.
Furthermore, in measures 83 and 84, we suggest replacing the trills with rapid appoggiaturas.
Finally, the appoggiaturas in measures 56 and 115 should be played as long appoggiaturas.
The long appoggiatura is played on the beat and takes up one half of the main note's value.
