Please note that this score contains suggestions for performing the ornaments (here, trills and appoggiaturas) in accordance with the performance practice of the Baroque period.
Specifically, trills begin on the upper auxiliary note, ON the beat, and must have at least four notes.
In this sonata, there are two types of appoggiaturas :
- Short appoggiaturas (measures 3, 17 and 18) : the short appoggiatura is to be played very rapidly, on the beat, so that the main note retains almost all of its value
- Long appoggiaturas (measures 13, 14, 28 and 29) : the long appoggiatura is played on the beat and takes up one half of the main note's value
