Trumpet Tune
From The Island Princess
This Trumpet Tune was composed by Jeremiah Clarke during the Baroque period. It is part of Clarke's semi-opera The Island Princess, which was first performed in London in 1699.
This score is an arrangement for piano.
It remains in the original key of D Major.
It is appropriate for Grade 4 pianists.
Please note that this score contains suggestions for performing the ornaments (here : trills and appoggiaturas) in accordance with the performance practice of the Baroque period.
In particular, trills should be played ON the beat, starting on the upper auxiliary note.
Likewise, appoggiaturas are also played ON the beat, very rapidly.
Furthermore, the dotted quarter note in measure 1 (and similar measures) should be played as if it were doubly dotted, in order to make the short notes of the melody uniformly sixteenth notes.
