Minuet from the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach

This lovely Menuet in D minor, BWV Anhang 132 is the 36th entry in Anna Magdalena Bach's Notebook.

Johann Sebastian Bach gave this notebook to his wife Anna Magdalena in 1725.

Over the years, the notebook was filled with favorite selections of the members of the Bach family.

This score is an Urtext based on the original manuscripts available.

This minuet has a simple A-A-B-B musical form.

Please note that this score contains suggestions for realizing the ornaments in accordance with the performance practice of the Baroque period.

In this minuet, the only ornament is a schleifer in measure 6.

The schleifer (or slide) is played rapidly, ON the beat, adding the two lower neighbouring notes before the main note.

We also suggest adding cadential trills to measures 7 and 24.

In measure 8, the C# in the left-hand is editorial, as it does not appear in the original manuscript.
