Concerto RV 297, Op. 8, No. 4 L'Inverno (I : Allegro non molto) -- Urtext

Four Seasons - Winter - Concerto in F minor - First Movement

This famous Allegro non molto is the first of three movements in the Concerto RV 297, Op. 8, No. 4 (L'Inverno) by Antonio Vivaldi.

This concerto is part of Vivaldi's famous Four Seasons [Le quattro stagioni], a series of four concertos part of Il cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione [The Contest of Harmony and Invention].

Each concerto in the Four Seasons is associated to a sonnet probably written by Vivaldi himself.

The verses corresponding to the Allegro non molto of the Winter concerto are as follows :

Aggiacciato tremar trà neri algenti
Al severo spirar d'orrido Vento
Correr battendo i piedi ogni momento
e per soverchio gel batter i denti

[To tremble from cold in the icy snow,
In the harsh breath of a horrid wind;
To run, stamping one's feet every moment,
Our teeth chattering in the extreme cold.]

Duration : 04:27
