Suite in G Major, HWV 441 (1/7 : Allemande)

Prelude - Suite No. 8

This Allemande in G Major is the first of seven movements in George Frideric Handel's Suite in G Major, HWV 441.

This Suite HWV 441 has the following movements :
  1. Allemande
  2. Allegro
  3. Courante
  4. Aria
  5. Menuett
  6. Gavotte
  7. Gigue
This suite was first published in London in 1733 in Suites de pièces pour le clavecin, vol. 2 (London: John Walsh, 1733).

Please note that this sheet music includes indications for performing the ornaments (here : trills) in accordance with the performance practice of the Baroque period.

Namely, trills are played ON the beat, starting on the upper auxiliary note.

Also, in this allemande, the performer may play the dotted rhythm pattern even when it is not notated.

Indeed, during the Baroque period, composers did not always notate rhythms precisely.

They rather expected the performers to adapt the rhythms to fit the style of the music.

Finally, it is also good performance pratice to roll the chords, as in measures 1, 7, 8 and 16.

Duration : 02:51
